Tips

history
He served 刘濞, King of Wu, and wrote to warn him against rebellion, comparing the danger to a thousand-jun weight hanging by a single thread. Wu rebelled anyway in the Rebellion of the Seven States of 154 BC and was crushed. His 《七发》 'Seven Stimuli' began a whole genre of fu built on seven persuasions.
mistakes
The usual modern reading is Méi Chéng. Older reference works read his name Méi Shèng, with 乘 as in 'chariot'.
