history
Li Lin (李林, 1915–1940) was a female cavalry commander in the Communist Eighth Route Army. Born in Fujian and raised in Java, she returned to China to fight the Japanese and died in battle in Shanxi at 24. She is still honored as 'the first overseas-Chinese heroine' in PRC history textbooks.
