新街口 is often called 'China's number-one commercial district' (
中华第一商圈) — a crossroads packed with Deji Plaza and other malls. Beijing's
新街口 is a quieter historic neighborhood in Xicheng District famous for Peking Opera (the
梅兰芳纪念馆 is nearby).
