After the match, the two opponents shook hands and made peace.
Tips
usage
握手言和 = literally "clasp hands and speak peace." Used for any reconciliation: a feud, a lawsuit, a prolonged business or sports rivalry. In sports reporting it also covers a tied/drawn game where rivals end politely, not just disputes.
memory
Four transparent pieces: 握 (grip) + 手 (hand) + 言 (speak) + 和 (peace). "Grip hands, speak peace" - same image as the English handshake.
