中国 was the global hub of MMO gold-farming in the 2000s — entire 工作室 (gōngzuòshì, 'studios') of players grinding currency in 世界 (WoW) and 传奇 (Legend of Mir) to sell to Western players. The phenomenon spawned Cory Doctorow's novel 'For the Win' (2010).
