usage

Stock-market jargon — 打 here doesn't mean “to hit” but the colloquial “to do / to play”; 新 is short for 新股 (xīngǔ, new shares / IPO). Mainland Chinese IPO subscription uses a lottery (中签 zhòngqiān), so 打新 is half investment, half raffle.
