The word 'wangba' often appears in classical storytelling.
Tips
register
Vulgar insult. A variant spelling of 王八 (wángba). Folk etymology says it means 'one who forgot the eight virtues' — 忘 (wàng, forget) + 八 (bā, eight) — i.e., 礼义廉耻孝悌忠信.
usage
Functionally identical to 王八 today; 忘八 is the older, more literary form often seen in Ming/Qing fiction.
