Every autumn, large flocks of birds migrate south.
Tips
usage
Mostly literary or formal. The common word is 迁徙 (to migrate, relocate), used for people moving home and for animal migration. The set phrase 孟母三迁 refers to the famous tale of Mencius' mother moving three times.
Left step radical, the indexing component, signaling motion and walking. Moving one's home is going somewhere, so this 'travel' radical fits. Same movement family as 往 and 行.
The right side contains a doubled foot element that, with the step radical, reinforces feet on the move. It works with the radical to picture going from one place to another rather than supplying a sound.
