Tips

culture
One of his art names, 长素, was read as 'surpassing the 素王', the 'uncrowned king' Confucius. A censor cited it in 1894 as proof of his arrogance, and his book 《新学伪经考》 was ordered destroyed.
culture
His utopian work 《大同书》 envisioned a future world without nations, families, or private property - a startlingly radical vision for a late-Qing Confucian scholar.
