Pompeii (the city) was destroyed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius (维苏威火山 Wéisūwēi Huǒshān) in 79 CE. The same Chinese name 庞培 also refers to the Roman general Pompey the Great, rival of Julius Caesar.
