Tips

usage
Most often in two four-character phrases: 怪石嶙峋 'jagged, strangely shaped rocks' and 瘦骨嶙峋 'all skin and bone'. The second borrows the image of rocky ridges for bones that jut out under the skin.
memory
Both characters carry the mountain radical 山: the word pictures rock first, and bodies and character only by comparison.
