Japanese swordsman of the early Edo period, said to have never lost in some sixty duels, who fought with two swords and wrote the strategy book 五轮书 (The Book of Five Rings).
Yoshikawa Eiji's novel of the 1930s and Inagaki Hiroshi's film trilogy with Toshiro Mifune made him a worldwide icon. Inoue Takehiko's manga Vagabond, 浪客行 in Chinese, is drawn from that novel.

Japanese kanji names are usually read with their Mandarin readings character-by-character, not phonetically. So 宫本 (Miyamoto) becomes Gōngběn ('palace-root') and 武藏 (Musashi) becomes Wǔzàng ('martial-storehouse'). Don't expect the Japanese sound - read the characters.
