定力 began as a Buddhist term: one of the five spiritual powers, the strength of meditative concentration (
禅定) that holds back distracting thoughts. Today it means keeping one's head under pressure, and official language often speaks of
战略定力 ("strategic resolve"), holding to a long-term course.
