usage
媞 is rare in everyday Chinese. Its main uses are: (1) as part of the literary reduplication 媞媞, a classical adjective for the calm, well-composed bearing of a woman; (2) as a phonetic character in transliterations of foreign female names; (3) as a chosen given-name character for girls, valued for its elegant feel. It also carries the obscure secondary sense 'sedge seeds'.

Same 是 phonetic on the right as 提 (lift/carry) and 堤 (dyke). Whenever you see 是 as the right component, expect a tí or dī reading family. With 女 on the left, 媞 falls into the 'feminine quality' character group.
