He began 《李自成》 in 1957 and worked on it for the rest of his life. Its second volume won the first 茅盾文学奖 in 1982, and the last two volumes were completed from his drafts after his death in 1999.
mistakes
垠 is read yín, 'edge, boundary', as in 一望无垠, 'stretching as far as the eye can see'. It is not gèn or hén, though it shares a component with 根 and 痕.
