Tips

history
Founded a steppe khaganate in 744 CE that lasted about a century, allied with Tang China against the Tibetan Empire and the An Lushan rebels. Later renamed themselves 回鹘 (Huíhú); migrated to the Tarim Basin after their khaganate collapsed in 840 CE, where they form the ethnic core of today's 维吾尔族 Uyghurs and 裕固族 Yugurs.
