驸马 is the title of an emperor's son-in-law, so 女驸马 means 'the woman son-in-law': the heroine, passing as a man, comes first in the imperial exam and is married to a princess. Its aria 为救李郎离家园, 'to save my Li I left home', is among the best-known Huangmei tunes.
