吐瓦鲁 is the Taiwan transliteration; the Mainland renders Tuvalu as 图瓦卢 (Túwǎlú). Both refer to the same nine-island country between Hawaii and Australia.

With a peak elevation under 5 m, Tuvalu is one of the nations most threatened by sea-level rise. In 2022 its foreign minister gave a televised speech standing knee-deep in the ocean to highlight the crisis.
