usage

In 儿化 the suffix 儿 is not said as a syllable of its own but curls the tongue at the end of the syllable before it: 花儿 is one syllable, huār. It can change the meaning: 头 is 'head', 头儿 'boss'. The sound itself is called 儿化音.
