Samuel Pepys was an English administrator and Member of Parliament whose private diary (1660-1669), kept in shorthand, gives a vivid first-person account of the Restoration, the Great Plague (
大瘟疫) of 1665, and the Great Fire of London (
伦敦大火) of 1666. The diary is a foundational text for English historical writing and is often referenced in Chinese world-history textbooks.
