Tips

history
陆游 came to the capital 临安, today's 杭州, in 1186 to wait for an audience with the emperor before taking up a post as prefect of Yanzhou. Weary of official life, he describes idle days of writing cursive script and making tea. Its best-known couplet is 小楼一夜听春雨,深巷明朝卖杏花。 'All night in my small upstairs room I listened to the spring rain; tomorrow morning they will sell apricot blossoms in the deep lanes.'
usage
霁 is a literary word for the sky clearing after rain or snow, so 初霁 is 'just cleared'.
