Tips

history
On 9 December 1935, thousands of students in Beiping (as Beijing was then called) marched against the Japanese-backed puppet authority in north China and the Nationalist government's passivity. The slogan was 停止内战,一致 ('stop the civil war, unite to resist Japan'). The movement galvanized urban intellectual support for the anti-Japanese cause.
