魔棒 is the standard Chinese rendering of the magic wand from Western fairy tales and the Harry Potter (哈利·波特) series. In Photoshop, the Magic Wand selection tool is also called 魔棒工具 móbàng gōngjù.
In the Harry Potter novels (J.K. Rowling), every wizard's wand has a unique core (phoenix feather, dragon heartstring, unicorn hair) and chooses its owner — a concept made famous in Chinese translations as 魔棒选择主人.
