Tips

history
Hangul was created in 1443 under King Sejong (世宗大王) so that ordinary people could write without Chinese characters. Most Korean given names are still chosen from Chinese characters, which is how a Korean name gets a Chinese form and a Chinese reading.
usage
韩文 is the written language and 韩语 the language in general; for North Korea and in linguistics the word is 朝鲜语. In older literary writing 韩文 can also mean the prose of 韩愈.
