Jing'an District (静安区) and the Jing'an Temple metro interchange (Lines 2/7/14) are both named after the temple. The area is the classic 'old money' address in Puxi.
Originally founded in 247 CE on the bank of the Wusong River as 沪渎重玄寺; renamed 静安寺 in 1008 (Song Dynasty). Modern Shanghai's temple-next-to-luxury-mall juxtaposition makes it an iconic image of the city — Kerry Centre, Plaza 66, and the Portman Ritz-Carlton are all minutes away.
