usage

A loan from English 'bully', chosen for both sound and sense: 霸 'tyrant', 凌 'to maltreat'. First common in Taiwan, it is now standard everywhere, above all in 校园霸凌 'school bullying'. The native words are 欺负 'to pick on' and the more formal 欺凌.
