邮件 'mail/email' alone is ambiguous, context disambiguates. In tech/UI contexts it almost always means email; in postal contexts it can mean physical mail. To force the digital sense, you’ll see 电子邮件 (diànzǐ yóujiàn 'electronic mail') in formal copy.
