短信 'short message / SMS' (literally 'short letter') is mainland-standard. In Taiwan/HK you'll see
簡訊 (jiǎnxùn) instead. SMS notifications are still heavily used in mainland China for banking 2FA, deliveries, and government services - even with WeChat dominance.
