Compare with 辅导员, that one's more institutional, especially the 'student affairs counselor' role at Chinese universities. 辅导人 is the more general 'person who tutors/mentors'.
memory
辅 'assist' + 导 'guide' + 人 'person' = an assistant-guide. Verb form 辅导 'to tutor' is much more common than the noun.
