The traditional
花轿 (huājiào, 'flower sedan') — a richly decorated red palanquin carried by four or eight bearers — was the ceremonial vehicle for a bride being delivered to her groom's home. The phrase
八抬大轿 (bā tái dà jiào, '8-bearer big sedan') is still used metaphorically: 'I wouldn't go even if you sent an 8-man palanquin to fetch me' = absolutely refusing.
