蛇夫座

蛇夫 literally translates Greek Ophiuchus — 'the one who holds the snake'. The constellation depicts a man wrestling a serpent (the adjacent constellation 巨蛇座, Serpens). Identified in antiquity with the healer Asclepius, whose snake-twined staff is still the symbol of medicine.

The sun passes through Ophiuchus from late November to mid-December, which has periodically prompted internet headlines — including a 2016 NASA blog post — claiming there is a 'thirteenth zodiac sign'. Astronomically the sun has always crossed Ophiuchus; astrologically the traditional twelve signs haven't changed.
