Prefecture-level city in Shandong (山东 Shāndōng), home to Dongchang Lake (东昌湖) — the largest urban lake in northern China. Historically a key node on the Grand Canal (京杭大运河 Jīng-Háng Dàyùnhé). Pu Songling, author of 《聊斋志异》 (Liaozhai Zhiyi, Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio), was from this region.
