Read it literally: 置 (place) + 之 (it) + 脑 (brain) + 后 (behind) = 'park it behind your brain'. The image is filing something away in the back of your skull where you cannot see it. Always used with 把 + object: 把 X 置之脑后.
usage
Common partners: 把警告/规定/危险/批评/烦恼置之脑后. Often implies the speaker disapproves — there is usually a hint that the thing being ignored deserved attention. Compare neutral 忘记 (forget by accident) and 不予理会 (formally pay no heed).
