Tips

culture
Minas Tirith (Sindarin for 'Tower of Guard') is the seven-tiered white city built on Mount Mindolluin in Tolkien's legendarium. It is besieged by Sauron's army at the climactic Battle of the Pelennor Fields (平原战役) in The Return of the King (《王者归来》). Originally called Minas Anor, it was renamed after Minas Ithil fell to the Nazgûl. The 2003 Peter Jackson film made the digital model of Minas Tirith one of cinema's most iconic CG cityscapes.
usage
Six-character phonetic transliteration: ----- ≈ 'Mi-na-s-ti-li-s'. Mainland Chinese editions of Lord of the Rings (人民文学出版社) use this form; Taiwanese editions ( translation) sometimes use or · with a middle dot. Note that (lì) renders the 'r' sound — Mandarin lacks a true 'r' onset for transliteration, so / / are common substitutes.
