Tips

culture
Climbing a hill on the Double Ninth, the 9th day of the 9th lunar month, was meant to ward off misfortune, together with wearing a sprig of 茱萸 (cornel) and drinking chrysanthemum wine. People who stay home eat 重阳糕 instead, because 糕 'cake' sounds like 高 'high'.
history
杜甫 wrote 《登高》 in 767, old, ill and far from home. The Ming critic Hu Yinglin called it the finest seven-character regulated verse ever written.
