Note 漂 has multiple readings: piǎo (to bleach) here, but piāo (to float) and piào (handsome, in 漂亮). 漂白 = to bleach; 粉 = powder. For modern liquid bleach (sodium hypochlorite), Chinese says 漂白水 or 84消毒液 (the famous Chinese disinfectant brand).
