The phrase was used by late-Qing reformers and Sun Yat-sen, revived by the CCP leadership as 中华民族伟大复兴 ('the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation') from the early 2000s and codified as a core slogan in the 2012 'Road to Rejuvenation' (复兴之路) narrative. Heavily used in state media and school textbooks.
