Tang chuanqi (传奇) is the genre of literary tales - early Chinese fantasy fiction. Liu Yi runs into a banished dragon princess herding sheep on a riverbank, takes her letter to her father the Dongting Lake dragon king, and eventually marries her. It seeded countless later operas, the most famous being Yuan-dynasty 《柳毅传书》.
