Named after Chen Duxiu's (陈独秀) 1917 manifesto 文学革命论 in 新青年 magazine. It rejected classical literary forms in favor of the vernacular, and prepared the ground for Lu Xun's 狂人日记 (1918), the first modern Chinese short story written entirely in 白话文.
