Famous for
走婚 (zǒuhūn, 'walking marriage'): partners do not cohabit; the man visits the woman at night and returns to his maternal home in the morning. Children are raised by the mother and her brothers in the matrilineal household. Officially classified as part of the
纳西族 (Nàxī zú, Naxi) in Yunnan and the
蒙古族 (Měnggǔ zú, Mongols) in Sichuan.
