After the match, the two opponents shook hands and made peace.
Tips
usage
握手言和 = literally "clasp hands and speak peace." Used for any reconciliation: a feud, a lawsuit, a prolonged business or sports rivalry. In sports reporting it also covers a tied/drawn game where rivals end politely, not just disputes.
memory
Four transparent pieces: 握 (wò, grip) + 手 (shǒu, hand) + 言 (yán, speak) + 和 (hé, peace). "Grip hands, speak peace" — same image as the English handshake.
