Tips

grammar
Verb reduplication of 指 (to point). Reduplicating a single-syllable verb softens it into a brief, casual action - 'to give a quick X' or 'to X a bit'. Compare 看看 (take a look), 想想 (think a bit). Almost always paired with 点点 in the chunk 指指点点 ('to point fingers and gossip').
mistakes
Don't confuse with 指示 ('to instruct') or 指出 ('to point out'). 指指 is purely the physical motion, repeated.
