history

心学 emerged from Lu Jiuyuan (陆九渊) in the Song and was developed by Wang Yangming (王阳明) in the Ming. Its rival 理学 (School of Principle, Zhu Xi) located moral truth in external things; 心学 located it in the mind itself.
