Tips

history
Son of Manchurian warlord (assassinated by the Japanese in 1928). In December 1936 at 西安 (Xi'an Incident) he and Yang Hucheng kidnapped Chiang Kai-shek to force a United Front against Japan. After release, Chiang placed him under house arrest for 54 years — first in mainland China, then in Taiwan. Released only in 1990; died in Hawaii in 2001 at age 100.
