Fire and rescue teams now come under the Ministry of Emergency Management, no longer under the police.

It was created in the 2018 State Council reform, taking over work-safety supervision from the old 国家安监总局, the fire service from the police and disaster relief from several other ministries. Its local offices are the 应急管理局.
