Pinggu (lit. 'flat valley') on Beijing's northeastern edge is China's largest peach-producing county - over 220,000 mu of peach orchards and an annual 平谷桃花节 (Peach Blossom Festival) in spring. It is also the site of 金海湖, a popular reservoir resort for Beijingers escaping summer heat.
