Tips

history
Literally "state chairman" — the PRC office deliberately avoided 总统 (the term used for Western-style presidents and for the ROC/Taiwan head of state). The post was abolished in the Cultural Revolution (1975 constitution) and restored in 1982. Typically held jointly with CCP General Secretary and CMC Chairman.
