Mount Wu (also called 城隍山 Chenghuang Hill) is one of Hangzhou's ten famous scenic spots. Known for its views of West Lake and the Qiantang River, and for the City God Temple at its summit.

In 1161 the Jurchen Jin emperor Wanyan Liang vowed to ride his horse to the top of 吴山 as part of his invasion of Southern Song — a boast that became a byword for doomed ambition.
