Designed by Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron in collaboration with artist Ai Weiwei (
艾未未) and engineer Li Xinggang (
李兴钢). Its lattice steelwork earned the nickname
鸟巢 (Niǎocháo, 'Bird's Nest'). It hosted the opening and closing ceremonies of both the 2008 Summer Olympics and the 2022 Winter Olympics - the only stadium ever to do so.
