Common pattern in Chinese: 吃饭 chī-fàn 'eat-rice = have a meal,' 睡觉 shuì-jiào 'sleep-sleep = to sleep,' 开车 kāi-chē 'open-car = to drive.' These can split: 吃了一顿饭 'ate a meal,' 睡了一觉 'took a nap.' Splittability is the diagnostic test for a 动宾式 compound.
